Learning and Development

Whether you have recently left school at 16, are a new graduate or a seasoned professional, further learning and development opportunities are the key to career success.

Bournemouth Borough Council is committed to your continued personal development.
Learning and Development events take place across Bournemouth, with activity co-ordinated from the Corporate Learning and Development team at the Town Hall.  Some Service Units also have their own specific Learning and Development teams to provide bespoke events linked to your area of specialism.

We employ our own specialist team to work with staff across the council in identifying learning and development needs and the best solutions to meet them. We use a mix of our own in house provision and external learning providers to meet these needs.

Each employee has a responsibility for their own development and should take steps to actively manage their own ongoing learning. This will include attending training that is reasonable and necessary to enable them to carry out their duties and to identify areas they would like to learn more about.

Work related training opportunities include:

  • Work shadowing
  • Mentoring
  • Non-qualification training – events and conferences
  • In-house courses
  • E-learning
  • Leadership and Management Development programmes

Throughout your time with the Council you can also take advantage of short courses through our e-learning site, focusing on everything from Time Management to Appraisal Conversations.

Our Annual “Appraisal Conversation” will help motivate you in your role and will encourage you to stretch and develop to perform at your best using the training and development opportunities available to you.
